However, if a guest comes to your house and asks you why does your TV screen looks nasty, you can give them this valid excuse. Luckily though, there are some products and ingredients that you can use to make your TV screen appear presentable in front of your guests or husband. Here I will teach you How to Clean a Flat Screen TV.

TV screen monitors are somewhat similar to computer monitors that called high-definition flat-panel display or LCD monitors. However, your smartTV or flat TV comes with different glasses than that you will find in tubes or old TV models. So, you cannot use a normal window cleaner to your TV to make it look clean and fresh. Your TV’s  LCD or plasma screen is flexible and sensitive; so it will be better if you avoid chemical cleaners or ordinary paper towels. So, of course, it is important to know how you can clean your TV screen safely without causing any damage to it.

Make Your Own Screen Cleaner for TVs and Computers

During my childhood, we had a glass-screened television and my mother used to wipe it with plain dry and a soft cloth. Though, today our TV screen gets dirty due to fingerprints and dirt. So it is not that easy to remove those fingertips from the screen. Still, a simple dry cotton cloth will work. Find a soft microfiber cloth that you mostly use to clean your eyeglasses and camera lenses. Gently wipe the screen with this soft cloth and dirt and debris will be gone. You may also want to wipe around the TV to make sure there is no dirt that will fly their way on your TV screen.

You may have very mild dish soap in your kitchen which can be a solution for stubborn fingerprints on your smart TV. These soaps are highly diluted with water and you can apply a little bit to your soft cloth. Do not apply it directly to your TV screen. Panasonic Smart TV comes with a manual on how to clean your TV screen with soap. They show you how much soap to use with the correct ratio of water. They recommend a 100:1 ration for water and soap. Since the LCD screen tends to be much sensitive to touch, be careful while cleaning. Don’t press too hard or it will damage the screen. Also, if you use a moist cloth, dry the skin with a dry cloth to remove possible swirls or streaks.

You can repeat this procedure 2-3 days per week or whenever there is dirt or scratches on your TV screen. Also, if you want to keep it clean the whole week, teach your children how to resist touching a flat TV screen. I am sure it is not going to be an easy process and will take time, but it will pay you off later. If your screen is totally covered with dust, you should prepare for heavy cleaning. Fingerprints are pretty annoying as we contain a little bit of oil in our palm and when we use our smartphone screen, you will notice how bad it looks on the surface. Moreover, you cannot try to clean it by putting pressure or chemical products in it. It can cause serious damage to your TV screen. If you search online, you will find there are many products that can help you clean your TV screen. However, I would not suggest you try them as they can contain chemicals that can cause damage.

Avoid Harmful Chemicals

If you want to save your TV screen and want to watch your favorite TV show for delicately, you should not skip this section. Avoiding harmful chemicals like alcohol and ammonia can help you give a better life to your TV screen. You will find these chemicals in traditional window cleaners, but trust me, these things are for that use only. You can use them to clean your windows and even an old TV screen but not that flat one. If you use alcohol or any other chemicals, it will trigger a heavy damage to your expensive flat TV. Also, there are cleaners that have alcohol and ammonia, you should avoid them too. Moreover, even acetone can cause damage to your screen; so better avoid it too. Sometimes cleaners contain abrasive stuff that can scratch your screen; you might want to avoid that too.

Better not Use Cleaning Kit At All

Some cleaning kits cost $15 to $20 just for a simple microfiber cloth and a bottle of gel or liquid of cleaning solutions. These products mostly contain water and nothing more. Who wants to buy water which is that much pricy? Instead, you can buy a microfiber cloth from a store and use distilled water that will work. If you still want to use a cleaning kit, make sure it does not contain any of the above-mentioned chemicals.

The Remote Control Also Needs Some Cleaning Too!

If you think that you only need to clean the TV to make it look presentable, then you are lying to yourself. If your remote control looks nasty too, then you should clean it. Remotes are not only gross but they also contain a fair amount of bacteria. Every time you look at that remote controller, just imagine how many people have touched it and pressed the buttons on it. Not all of them use hand sanitizer all the time. So, if you don’t want to get sick, clean it too.

If you want to play safer, just remove the batteries too and start cleaning. Start by cleaning it upside down so that you can remove the dirt effectively. Focus on the area around the buttons where debris falls and make it look dirty. Wipe the entire remote with a soft piece of cloth and make it look like a new one. You can also use a dry toothbrush to clean the areas around the buttons and when you think it’s done, use a damp cloth to wipe it once again. Now reinstall the batteries and it’s all good.

There are some dos and don’ts that you should check out too for safety purposes.
